The Department of Composite Structures and Aviation Materials Science of the National Aerospace University "KhAI" has two directions of its work. The first is the provision of fundamental training of bachelors in all directions in the field of aviation, electrotechnical materials science, and the second direction is the training of bachelors and masters in the specialty "Design and production of composite structures".

Educational practice is carried out at the department and on the basis of the problematic research laboratory of composite materials, industrial and pre-diploma practice - at leading enterprises of Ukraine. The department conducts a large amount of scientific and research work in the following areas:

- creation of scientific bases for the design and production of composite structures of aerospace engineering.

- development of the fundamental bases of technological preparation for the production of constructions from polymer composite materials.

- creation of mathematical and experimental support for designing and calculating the strength of connections of parts and aggregates from composite materials.
