Hang Gliding Club of SDB KhAI "Ikar"

The hang-gliding club of the SDB KHAI "Ikar" was founded in 1976 as a division of the student DB, to attract the student masses to aviation and technical creativity and aviation sports in the form of hang-gliding, which was young at the time. The reason for the creation of the hang-gliding club as part of the student design bureau was the victory of the pilot team from Khai, consisting of Volodymyr Silyukov and Igor Kachkar, at the first championship of the Soviet Union, held in 1976 in Planersk. Then a room was allocated on the mezzanine floor of the workshop in the impulse building, where the club is located even now. The path to heaven begins precisely on these steep steps! - the young pilots joke. Over the years of its existence, more than fifty hang gliders of all existing generations have been built in the KHAI hang gliding club. Athletes of the delta club have more than once become prize-winners of all-Union and republican competitions. Over the past years, more than five hundred students of KHAI have passed the delta club school.

The purpose of the hang gliding club is to fly. To the question, what exactly do we do in the club, the correct answer would be - we fly. Well, of course, we do a lot of things in order to fly. We build hang gliders, sew pilot suspension systems to them, constantly maintain hang gliding equipment, because in order to fly safely, the equipment must be in perfect condition, and we also train a lot.

Every weekend - departures for flights. These flights are not possible without a regular training process in the club on the simulator.

Usually twice a year, the delta club goes to educational and training meetings. Flight training sessions can be dedicated to competition preparation or just training. Part of the meeting is dedicated to novice pilots who do not yet have a flight qualification, but have gained enough experience on domestic flights to be allowed to fly abroad. The second type of meeting is purely sports, held in the mountains. Tired legs and shoulders on flights, bruises from falls. "Getting together" by the fire with a guitar, or fixing something technical "for the next day" by the light of a flashlight. Early rises at sunrise, early going to bed, because tomorrow I have to fly somewhere.

That's how the club lives. Who is interested - come in!

The address is the impulse building workshop, walk 20m to the left from the entrance. and, take the first step to heaven - climb up the stairs.
