The Department of Applied Linguistics has a student research group.
Scientific research work of students is an integral part of the educational process, the purpose of which is scientific research activity, expressed primarily in independent creative research. Such activity is an inseparable component of the professional training of competent specialists, which involves teaching students of higher education methodology and research methods: explanation of phenomena and processes, theoretical and experimental substantiation of facts, identification of regularities using scientific methods of cognition.
By performing research work, the awardees not only systematically participate in search and research activities, but also develop the skills of a creative approach to the study of certain scientific problems.
Expanding the cognitive and professional opportunities of higher education students, in September 2022 the student research group at the Department of Applied Linguistics was named "Actual philological research: word, text, translation, communication", and its leader was appointed candidate. philol. Sciences, Associate Professor Medved.
Current areas of applied linguistics, as well as issues of academic integrity, were discussed at the meetings of the scientific circle. Separate meetings had the format of a scientific studio, for example, "Sharing experience" (masters' reports on the progress and results of diploma studies were heard), "Language, man, computer" (the experience of performing practical tasks in the laboratory of the Department of Applied Linguistics was discussed).
The student research group "Cognitive and discursive aspects of linguistic and cultural studies" has been operating at the Department of Applied Linguistics at the Faculty of Humanities and Law of the National Aerospace University "Kharkiv Aviation Institute" since September 2021.
The activity of the scientific circle is aimed at developing the abilities and skills of linguists to plan, organize, carry out and present scientific theoretical and applied research in the field of linguistics; involvement of awardees in various forms of scientific communication (conferences, round tables, debates, scientific publications), as well as participation in student competitions and Olympiads; in-depth study by students of higher education of materials from the chosen field.
The current work of the student scientific circle is organized and controlled by a scientific director (chairman), who is appointed by the head of the department from among the scientific and pedagogical employees of the department - Olga Mishchenko - Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Applied Linguistics.
Meetings of the student scientific circle take place once a month. During the meetings, students together with teachers of the department discuss the problems and prospects of modern applied linguistics: the main directions of linguistic and linguistic-cultural studies of the English-language text; the history of the emergence and development of linguistic and cultural studies; modern linguistic approaches to the study of concepts "concept", "discourse"; linguistic features of aviation discourse, etc.
