On February 15, 1972, by Order No. 83 of the USSR Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education dated February 7, 1972, the Student Campus of the Kharkiv Aviation Institute was established. It included eight student dormitories and three residential buildings for young professionals and institute staff.
Today, the student campus comprises 9 student dormitories with 5,508 beds and a total area of 68,902.60 m², as well as 6 residential buildings with 485 apartments totaling 27,048 m², and is located on a территории of about 14 hectares.
The primary function of the student campus is to accommodate students in dormitories and to create satisfactory living conditions, provide services, and maintain the housing facilities in proper sanitary and technical condition.
Currently, the student campus team is headed by V. Voloshyn.
In 1996, in order to improve the organization of work and enhance living conditions, the student campus was separated into a state enterprise with independent economic activity within the institute’s structural framework. The KhAI student campus became the first—and still the only—example of such economic independence in the city of Kharkiv.
To meet the everyday needs of students and university staff, the following facilities are located on the campus: hair salons, cafés, buffets, a shoe repair workshop, a laundry, and a dry-cleaning service.
To ensure students’ cultural and leisure activities, the campus features a disco club, billiards club, chess club, and a sports ground. Each dormitory is equipped with a sports room.
The establishment of in-house mechanical workshops and auto repair facilities with a garage for six vehicles allows the campus to efficiently address its operational tasks.
The staffing of the student campus has made it possible to form its own welding teams, duty services, and construction and repair crews. Today, the student campus represents a self-sufficient complex capable of independently solving a wide range of specialized housing maintenance tasks.
Every young man and woman entering the University can be confident that the student campus will become their home away from home, and that the prestigious education received within the walls of their alma mater will be a guarantee of their future career.
