The Department of Law was established under the Faculty of Humanities and Law in 2018 and provides training in specialties D8 "Law" and K9 "Law Enforcement Activity". Educational services for these specialties are implemented at the first (Bachelor's) and second (Master's) levels. In specialty D8 "Law", the department also offers training at the third educational-scientific level leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree.
Student training is conducted in modern and promising legal specializations (at the student's choice):
- Information Law;
- Civil and Commercial Law;
- Criminal Law;
- Public Order and Safety;
- Security of Aviation Complex Facilities and Other Critical Infrastructure.
Students of specialty K9 "Law Enforcement Activity" undergo practical training in firearms practice and specialized tactics in purpose-built university facilities (shooting range, military, and forensics training grounds).
Graduates in specialties D8 "Law" and K9 "Law Enforcement Activity" gain access to prestigious career paths such as legal counsel, attorney, notary, prosecutor, judge, corporate head of security, detective, judicial enforcement officer, inmate rights protection expert, and police officer.
In addition, the department provides students of technical specialties with fundamental legal knowledge through training courses in jurisprudence, human and civil rights and duties, and IT law.
The department regularly organizes annual scientific conferences, seminars, and roundtables with the participation of leading legal experts and the student community. Student scientific clubs "Modern Doctrines of Legal Science" and "Problems of Legal Regulation of Civil Relations" operate at the department.
Students are provided with internship placements at state and private enterprises in Kharkiv and Kharkiv Oblast, in courts, law enforcement agencies, legal institutions, and law firms.
The Legal Clinic of KHAI, a Forensics Classroom, a Mock Courtroom, and the student association "Anti-Drug Bureau" have been established at the department.
The educational process at the department is delivered by highly qualified faculty members with extensive practical experience in law and law enforcement. A significant number of instructors are practicing attorneys, insolvency practitioners, or have prior experience working in courts, prosecution offices, and the police force.
Teaching staff of the department: 22 faculty members, including 3 Doctors of Sciences in Law, 18 Candidates of Sciences / Ph.D. holders, 11 Associate Professors, and 3 Full Professors. Department personnel actively engage in research activities and hold high citation ratings in international scientometric databases such as Scopus and Web of Science. The teaching staff possesses B2 English proficiency, along with international internship certificates and advanced training completed abroad.
