The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, with the aim of enhancing the role and authority of educators in society and encouraging pedagogical staff of preschool, out-of-school, general secondary, vocational, and professional pre-higher education institutions to engage in creative, innovative, and effective activities, annually awards 54 Vasyl Sukhomlynsky Awards of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, including:
- 27 awards – to pedagogical staff who provide full general secondary education in general secondary, vocational, or professional pre-higher education institutions;
- 27 awards – to one of the following categories of pedagogical staff, which rotate annually in the sequence specified in this subparagraph:
- pedagogical staff of preschool education institutions;
- pedagogical staff of out-of-school education institutions;
- pedagogical staff of vocational education institutions (excluding those providing full general secondary education);
- pedagogical staff of professional pre-higher education institutions (excluding those providing full general secondary education);
- heads of preschool, out-of-school, general secondary, vocational, or professional pre-higher education institutions.
The amount of a single Award is equal to 60 subsistence minimums for able-bodied persons, as established by the Law of Ukraine on the State Budget as of January 1 of the year the Award is conferred. The Award may be granted to a person only once.
