The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, in order to increase the role and authority of the teacher in society, to encourage pedagogical workers of preschool, out-of-school, general secondary, vocational and professional pre-higher education institutions to creative, innovative and effective activities, annually awards 54 prizes of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine named after Vasyl Sukhomlynsky, including:
- 27 prizes - to pedagogical workers who ensure the acquisition of complete general secondary education in institutions of general secondary, vocational or professional pre-higher education;
- 27 prizes - to one of the following categories of pedagogical workers, which alternate each year in the sequence determined by this subparagraph:
- To pedagogical workers of preschool education institutions;
- To pedagogical workers of out-of-school education institutions;
- To pedagogical workers of vocational education institutions (except for pedagogical workers who ensure the acquisition of complete general secondary education);
- Pedagogical employees of institutions of professional pre-higher education (except for pedagogical employees who ensure the acquisition of complete general secondary education);
- Heads of institutions of preschool, extracurricular, general secondary, professional, professional pre-higher education.
The amount of one Award is 60 subsistence minimums for able-bodied persons established by the Law on the State Budget of Ukraine as of January 1 of the year of awarding the Award. The Award may be awarded to a person once.
