National Aerospace University «Kharkiv Aviation Institute»

UNESCO LEADHER

The UNESCO International Association of Universities (IAU) project "Leadership for Higher Education Reform" (LEADHER) creates opportunities for learning, partnership, and collaboration among IAU member organizations. It provides an avenue for strengthening education worldwide by facilitating information exchange between association members.

The National Aerospace University "Kharkiv Aviation Institute" (Ukraine) and the University of Uyo (Nigeria) developed a project dedicated to the training of scientific personnel and, in particular, innovative doctoral programs. Given the current situations in both countries, the two institutions faced significant challenges when attempting to carry out the joint project, including complex visa processes, aviation incidents, and the Ebola virus epidemic. However, within the framework of the program, the parties organized at least two study visits to Nigeria.

The primary objectives of the project were:

- promoting the internationalization of higher education in the field of engineering;

- exchanging knowledge and experience to enhance the educational potential of the universities;

- strengthening relations between Ukraine and Nigeria;

As key results, the partners reported that:

- both institutions are ready to launch a 2+2 program for Master's and Bachelor's students;

- they are discussing the establishment of a KhAI branch at UniUyo;

- KhAI is ready to offer online tools for distance-based summer and winter schools for students from UniUyo.
