Basketball
Since 1976, the KhAI national team has been led by coach V. Borysenko, under whose guidance the KhAI basketball team twice became the champion of the Spartakiad of aviation universities of the USSR. In the following years, the men's basketball team repeatedly became the champion and prize-winner of the student league and the Spartakiad of universities of Kharkiv. At the end of 1999, the "BC KhAI XXI Century" club and a women's team were created under the leadership of coaches L. Shchedryva and V. Borysenko. The team debuted in the Championship of Ukraine among women's teams of the first league and won bronze medals. Over 20 years, it became a 4-time silver and 4-time bronze medalist of the Championships of Ukraine among the teams of the first and higher leagues.
Boxing
For many years, the national boxing team won the regional cup, the championship of higher education institutions (HEIs) of Kharkiv, became the champion of the 13th Spartakiad of Ukraine among students, and won three times at the Spartakiad of aviation universities. The trainees of the Honored Coach of Ukraine V. M. Yeryomenko include: Honored Master of Sports Vitaliy Yeryomenko – world karate champion, multiple prize-winner of World Championships and World Cups in kickboxing; Master of Sports of International Class Ilya Kalyna – prize-winner of the World Championship and World Cup in kickboxing; Honored Master of Sports Dinara Zhurgunova – three-time world kickboxing champion, prize-winner of the European Boxing Championship; Yuriy Rebrikov and Kostiantyn Maksymenko – prize-winners of the World Kickboxing Championship. Stanislav Sudoplatov won two gold medals at the World Kickboxing Championship in full-contact and light-contact styles. Stanislav Sudoplatov took 1st place, and Valeriy Bezrukov took 1st place in the Regional Annual Sports Competitions "Sport Throughout Life" among HEI students of III - IV accreditation levels of the Kharkiv region in boxing.
Weightlifting
The fruitful work of coaches and instructors on training high-class athletes since 2000 has led the university national team to high results. Thus, by 2004, four first-rated athletes, three candidates for Master of Sports, and one Master of Sports of Ukraine, Yuriy Trygub, had already been trained. In 2006, Oleksiy Torokhtiy became a Master of Sports of International Class, twice won the Championship of Ukraine among juniors, became the champion of the Youth Games of Ukraine, and the champion among students in 2006 and 2007. He is a prize-winner of the European and World Championships among juniors. He was a participant in the qualifying competitions for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, where he passed the selection and received the title of Master of Sports of International Class. Participant of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Prize-winner of the 2009 European Championship. Winner of the 2009 World Cup. Champion of the 2012 London Olympic Games. Also, one of the best athletes of KhAI is Oleh Slobodianiuk. In 2003, he began training under the guidance of R. I. Shafigullin and fulfilled the requirements for the Master of Sports title.
Volleyball
There are two training groups for volleyball at KhAI: men's and women's, under the leadership of senior lecturer V. I. Kramarenko and assistant M. A. Minaiev. The training group consists of KhAI students who have a sports rank in volleyball, as well as those who wish to improve their sports skills. Volleyball teams annually participate in competitions among higher education institutions, Kharkiv Cups, the Student League, and beach volleyball competitions. In the history of volleyball teams, there are examples when KhAI players were involved in the teams of the higher league in different years (Tetiana Radovenchyk, Mykhailo Karpenko, Volodymyr Minaiev) and became prize-winners of the Beach Volleyball Cup of Ukraine. After graduating from KhAI, alumni continue to play volleyball and participate in competitions, spending their leisure time this way after a working day. (Managed by senior lecturer V. I. Handball
The national handball team was created in 2002 and has long-standing traditions thanks to the fruitful work of instructors and athletes. The men's team "KhAI" participated in the championship among Kharkiv HEIs: in 2006 it took III place; in 2007 it took II place; in 2008 and 2009 the women's national team took III place; the men's national team in 2011 took I place. From 2016 to 2018, the KhAI national team participated in the Regional Annual Sports Competitions "Sport Throughout Life" among men's and women's teams of HEI students of III - IV accreditation levels of the Kharkiv region, becoming champions and prize-winners. Kettlebell Lifting and Powerlifting
Students engaged in these sports participate in competitions for the championship of Kharkiv universities, repeatedly winning prizes and fulfilling sports ranks. Over the last 10 years, 2 Masters of Sports and 10 Candidates for Master of Sports of Ukraine have been trained. In 2016, a student of group 525a, Ihor Denysenko, a Master of Sports in kettlebell lifting, became a bronze medalist of the World Championship held in Turin, Italy. In 2019, a student of group 126, Anton Stryhunov, a Candidate for Master of Sports in kettlebell lifting, became a bronze medalist of the European Junior Championship in Paris, France. In 2019, a student of group 315a, Mykhailo Bondarenko, and a student of group 163tmp, Mykhailo Chumak, became the winners of the Kharkiv Powerlifting Championship. (Managed by senior lecturer M. D. Kickboxing
The national kickboxing team became champions and prize-winners of the Championship of Ukraine among students in April 2019 (Andriy Heleta – 1st place, Anatoliy Ohurtsov – 1st place, Oleh Hetman – 1st place, Dmytro Rulevskyi – 2nd place, Oleksiy Falin – 2nd place). The athletes have repeatedly been winners and prize-winners in the Regional Annual Sports Competitions "Sport Throughout Life" among HEI students of III - IV accreditation levels of the Kharkiv region. They were prize-winners of the Cup of Ukraine in November 2018 (Andriy Heleta – 2nd place, Anatoliy Ohurtsov – 2nd place, Ihor Voskryvenko – 2nd place, Artem Oliynyk – 3rd place, and fulfilled the requirements for Candidate for Master of Sports of Ukraine). Swimming
The swimming section exists at KhAI as a sports improvement group — the highest level of student training. Students are also engaged in mass swimming while learning during academic classes. In recent years, our students have won the championships and cups of Ukraine in swimming many times (Artem Pron, Serhiy Nevzorov, Yulia Hychka). Sometimes our students successfully combine different sports. Yulia Hychka also became the winner of the World Cup and the European Championship in bench press (powerlifting), and the captain of the chess national team, Khiles-Hunchenko, is a member of the second swimming national team. Sambo
The national sambo wrestling team at KhAI began to develop in 1966, when Viktor Feofilovych Hlovatskyi, a multiple champion of Ukraine, joined the department. His trainees repeatedly stepped onto the podiums of World and European Championships. Among the best trainees are: Serhiy Podoliak – Master of Sports of International Class, World and European champion among men, prize-winner of the World Sambo Wrestling Cup; Kyrylo Krykunov – champion and two-time prize-winner of World Championships in combat sambo; Mykhailo Cherkasov – Master of Sports of International Class, multiple prize-winner of the World and European championships among boys and juniors, prize-winner of World Cups among students, prize-winner of the World Universiade in sambo wrestling, holder of the European Judo Cup; Dmytro Yevdoshenko – Master of Sports of International Class, prize-winner of World and European championships among men in sambo wrestling; Anastasiia Shevchenko – Master of Sports of International Class, World and European champion, multiple prize-winner of World and European championships among girls, juniors, and women, three-time holder of World Cups and World Championships among students in sambo. Currently, Oleh Zaika is the coach of the student national team.
Rock Climbing
Rock climbing as an independent sport began to develop at KhAI after 1994, when the best climbing wall in Ukraine was built in the athletic arena of our university. Currently, more than a hundred KhAI students are engaged in the rock climbing section under the leadership of Nastasiia Uvarova. The KhAI climbing national team is a multiple winner of championships among students. Trainees of the section are winners and prize-winners of international competitions. Master of Sports Yelyzaveta Lavrykova is a European Cup winner, European Championship finalist, and multiple champion of Ukraine. Valeriia Leshchenko is a Master of Sports, World Championship finalist, and multiple champion of Ukraine.
Tennis
The student tennis section of KhAI has existed since 1982. During this time, the national team has been a repeated prize-winner of the student Spartakiads of the Kharkiv region in tennis. Classes take place in the KhAI arena, where 5 tennis courts are located, equipped with professional hardware and good lighting. Trainings are conducted for beginners' groups and sports improvement groups. Students with ranks are members of the university national tennis team. They participate in competitions between faculties, as well as in regional Spartakiads. Based on the results of the competitions, sports ranks are assigned. (Managed by senior lecturer O. F. Tourism
Performing in sports tourism technique competitions, our athletes have repeatedly become prize-winners and champions of various All-Ukrainian and International competitions. Our athletes' achievements include victory at the World Mountain Tourism Championship, repeated victories at the Championship of Ukraine and the International Federation of Hiking and Mountain Tourism, and numerous victories at various regional competitions. The athletes of our club are multiple holders of the Cup of Ukraine in mountain tourism. In addition, our club successfully practices bicycle and water tourism, as well as caving and ski tourism. Taekwondo
From 2010 to 2019, the athletes of the national team fulfilled the requirements for the Master of Sports of Ukraine and Candidate for Master of Sports titles and became champions and prize-winners of the championships of Ukraine and the Spartakiad among students: Artem Marchenko, Ihor Lapin, Daryna Harbuz, Svitlana Lobanova, Nataliia Buhaienko, Tawhid Shi, Yuvaraj Kumar, Yulia Bala, Maksym Lafazan, and others. At the German Open Taekwondo Championship in February 2019, Svitlana Lobanova (student of group 365) and Nataliia Buhaienko (student of group 661f) took 1st places. (Managed by assistant V. Yu. Rhythmic Gymnastics
The student rhythmic gymnastics section was founded at KhAI in 1999. Over the 20 years of the national team's existence, professional female athletes enhanced their skills in the section. Students who only wished to master this sport also trained here. In 2018, the girls participated in the Regional Annual Sports Competitions "Sport Throughout Life" among HEI students of III - IV accreditation levels of the Kharkiv region in rhythmic gymnastics and took III place. In 2019, a student of group 515v took 1st place at the 21st international tournament "Autumn" in her age category. (Managed by senior lecturer O. P. Piddubna).
Cheerleading
The national team consists of female students of "KhAI" who participated in 2018 and 2019 in the Regional Annual Sports Competitions "Sport Throughout Life" among HEI students of III - IV accreditation levels of the Kharkiv region. (Managed by senior lecturer S. M. Kryvoruchko).
