Project-oriented PhD Program

Ukraine is testing a new format for PhD training.

The government has approved an experiment to implement a project-based doctoral program — a new model for training doctors of philosophy (PhD) that is centered on the completion of specific research projects.

Under this new model, PhD training will take place not only within the framework of the educational and scientific program but also through the participation of doctoral students in specially selected research projects. These projects have clearly defined objectives, stages of implementation, and expected outcomes, and the work on them forms the basis of the dissertation research.

For KhAI, this means:

- Strengthening the connection between PhD training and real scientific and technical challenges;

- New opportunities for attracting project-based funding;

- Development of applied research in the fields of aviation, space, defense, and high-tech industries;

- Additional motivation for young researchers to work on topics that are relevant to the country and science.

The experimental model is aimed at improving the quality of scientific personnel training and aligning Ukrainian doctoral studies with European and global practices.

Ukraine is testing a new format for PhD training.

The government has approved an experiment to introduce project-based doctoral studies—a new model for training Doctors of Philosophy (PhD) centered on executing specific research projects.

The new model foresees that PhD preparation will take place not only within traditional educational and scientific programs, but also through postgraduate participation in specially selected research and development projects. These projects feature clearly defined goals, execution stages, and expected results, with project work serving as the core of the doctoral dissertation.

For KhAI, this means:

- strengthening the connection between PhD training and real-world scientific and technical challenges;

- opening new opportunities for securing project-based funding;

- advancing applied research in aviation, space, defense, and high-tech sectors;

- creating additional motivation for young scientists to work on topics vital to the nation and the scientific community.

This experimental model is designed to enhance the quality of scientific personnel training and bring Ukrainian doctoral education into closer alignment with European and global practices.
