On May 12–15, the XIX International Scientific Conference “Environmental and Climate Technologies” CONECT 2026 was held in Riga (Latvia) — one of the leading platforms for discussing modern environmental and climate technologies.
Every year, the conference brings together about 200 scientists, researchers, doctoral students and practitioners from over 25 countries around the world. They talk about future technologies, energy solutions, environmental safety and ways to adapt to climate change.
KhAI was represented at the conference by Yuriy SKOB, Professor of the Department of Mathematical Modeling and Artificial Intelligence (304). He presented the study “Computational Modeling of Forest Firebreak Formation by Controlled Hydrogen Explosions”, carried out together with scientists from the Department 304 — Oksana PICHUGINA, Sergey YAKOVLEV and Oleksiy KARTASHOV.
The Kharkiv Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics team has developed an innovative three-dimensional CFD model that allows for the rapid creation of firebreaks in forests using controlled hydrogen explosions. This approach can help to quickly contain the spread of large-scale fires and is much more environmentally friendly than many traditional methods.
The report by Kharkiv scientists aroused keen interest from the international community and an active discussion among the conference participants.
Another important result was that, by the decision of international reviewers, the article by Kharkiv Institute scientists was selected for publication in the prestigious RTU scientific journal “Environmental and Climate Technologies”, which is indexed in the Scopus database (Q2).
