"Winter admission" to preparatory departments

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine announced the start of an experimental project - "winter admission" to preparatory departments of universities. This is a chance for those who, due to war, occupation or life circumstances, were unable to enroll this year, not to waste time, but to take a step towards student life right now.

What does this mean? The government is introducing the so-called "zero course". This is 3-6 months of intensive preparation for the National Higher Education Institute (Ukrainian language, mathematics, history of Ukraine + a subject of choice).

Who will receive state support? Applicants from temporarily occupied territories (TOT), front-line zones, veterans and military personnel. For them, education will be free, and the state will provide:

Scholarship (for full-time study).

Payment for accommodation in a dormitory.

Grants for study.

Why is this important for KhAI and our community?

1. Support for their own. KhAI is a university in the hero city of Kharkiv. We understand young people from the frontline areas and those who escaped from the occupation better than anyone else. The “Zero Course” allows us to support these children, integrate them into our family even before the official first year, and give them a sense of support and security (including in our protected spaces).

2. Bonus “+15 points”. This is critically important for admission to complex technical specialties. Graduates of the “zero course” who choose KhAI will receive up to 15 additional points.

3. Preservation of potential. We give talented young people a chance not to “drop out” of the educational process for a year. Instead of a pause, they are already immersed in the life of the university, getting to know the teachers and the KhAI`s atmosphere.
