During the war, we mostly receive news about our graduates not from offices and not from modern enterprises — but from the front line, from the “zero”, from the positions of drone operators, from military airfields.

Andriy is a 2019 graduate of KhAI, Department of Computer Science and Information Technologies (302).

INSTEAD OF AN OFFICE — AN AIRFIELD. HOW AN IT SPECIALIST BECAME AN AVIATION TECHNICIAN

Andriy is a senior aviation technician.

Before the full-scale invasion, he worked in Kharkiv at a company that was engaged in software for nuclear power plants.

“After the start of the full-scale invasion, I moved to Myrhorod. For some time, I worked remotely. In December 2022, I began serving in the 831st Myrhorod Tactical Aviation Brigade,” says Andriy.

At the beginning of the service, it was a little difficult, due to the lack of knowledge necessary for working with aircraft. Over time, everything got better, because my comrades always come to the rescue if there are difficulties in the work. Now I know my niche well and fulfill the assigned tasks.

“My duties are to prepare the aircraft for flights. We check the static and dynamic pressure, the tightness of the aircraft systems, the serviceability of the automatic control systems, the correct operation of the navigation complex, so that the course, roll and pitch are correctly displayed. After the flight, if there are any malfunctions, we must quickly eliminate them and prepare the aircraft for the next flight,” says Andriy.

He has known about military service since childhood - from his father, who gave 27 years of service to the army.

He talks about his work with a smile. He says that you have to do your job well and run fast, because quite often you had to prepare aircraft during air alarms.

“Military operations make their own adjustments to the work: we must be ready to prepare the aircraft for combat missions at any moment. In winter, it is a little more difficult - snow, sub-zero temperatures, but this is the specifics of our airfield. We try to give our all 100% to the work,” says the senior technician.

He admits that he does not regret his choice. Now is the time when we need to defend the country.
