Today, August 29, on the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine, at 9:00 — during a national minute of silence — the university community gathered at the memorial to the fallen defenders of KhAI.
KhAI Rector Oleksii LYTVYNOV, vice-rectors, deans, teachers, staff and students laid flowers at the memorial and honored the memory of those who gave their lives for Ukraine.
The symbol of this day is the sunflower.
The sunflowers that grew in the fields near Ilovaisk saw the hell of war. They saw death and courage. They also saw how those we once called brothers shot and finished off Ukrainian soldiers during the withdrawal from Ilovaisk. What was supposed to be an agreement about salvation turned into a terrible human safari.
Today marks 12 years since the Ilovaisk tragedy.
We remember all those who died for Ukraine — in 2014, in Ilovaisk, in Donbas, on all fronts of this war...
We remember those who gave the most precious thing — their lives.
As long as we remember — they are with us.
Eternal memory and honor to the Heroes of Ukraine.
