Temporary home for victims

Temporary home for victims

As a result of a massive drone strike on Kharkiv on the night of January 24, 2026, a dormitory in the Industrial District, where internally displaced persons from the front-line areas of the Kharkiv region lived, was damaged.

News and footage of the destruction spread across the country: people who had already lost their homes due to the war were forced to evacuate from the destroyed premises in the bitter cold at night.

The dormitories of KhAI became a new temporary home for the victims. Here, the people were hospitably greeted by the staff of the university campus.

With their simple treasure and the things with which they once left the combat zones, the internally displaced persons moved to KhAI.

Dormitory No. 10, which had been renovated in advance, shelters had been arranged, furniture and all necessary things had been brought in, accepted 33 internally displaced persons.

Three more future residents are currently in hospitals after the shelling - we sincerely wish them a speedy recovery.

“We will do everything to surround these people with maximum attention and care, to create a feeling of comfort and peace for them, so that they do not need anything,” said Vitaliy Voloshyn, director of the KhAI campus.

The history of KhAI during wartime.

A difficult one, not at all fun - but a story about humanity, support and a shoulder to lean on in the darkest night.
