The year is coming to an end, which means that, according to the pre-New Year tradition, it is time to sum up the results and recall interesting events.
2025 marked the beginning of the activities of the StarFrontier astronomy club at the Kharkiv Aviation Institute. Our amateur astronomers studied such constellations of the autumn and winter sky of the Northern Hemisphere as Cassiopeia, Pegasus, Andromeda, Perseus, and Orion. When the weather was good, we got to do some astronomy stuff with binoculars and a telescope — we saw comet C/2025 A6 Lemmon, craters on the Moon, and constellations we talked about in class. We familiarized ourselves with the astronomical calendar and literature on the subject, special applications for searching for celestial objects, and watched several episodes of a popular science series. We traveled and looked at the sky from different parts of the world using VR technology. Andriy Popov, candidate of technical sciences and club curator, immersed us in scientific adventures in the sky.
Two meetings with Sofia Denyschenko, PhD in Physics and Astronomy, who visited the club with open lectures on “Introduction to Astronomy” and “Diversity of Celestial Objects,” were particularly memorable. Thanks to Sofia Ivanivna, we learned about various celestial bodies and their associations, the mysteries of our Milky Way galaxy and the universe.
A significant event that concluded our first semester of the astronomy club's activities was the purchase, on the initiative of Acting Rector Oleksiy LYTVYNOV, of a modern and powerful Sky-Watcher BKP2001P telescope on an EQ6-R mount! New equipment means new opportunities! KhAI astronomers are looking forward to the new season and favorable weather to continue exploring the sky with the new device!
After the holidays, there will be new meetings of the KhAI StarFrontier astronomy club members. We invite everyone to join us every Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in the secure space of KhAI. Perhaps you are the one who will make a scientific discovery in astronomy!
