On March 4, the city of Berestyn hosted a popular science event called “Universe of Knowledge,” conducted by teachers and scientists of the National Aerospace University “Kharkiv Aviation Institute.”
Over 120 high school students from five leading lyceums in the city gathered in the protected space of Berestyn Lyceum No. 5. For many of them, this meeting was an opportunity to see modern engineering and science not only in textbooks, but also in real models and demonstrations.
The students got acquainted with models of automobile engines — internal combustion, Stirling, and Wankel, models of gas turbine engines, parts of vane machines, and also observed the operation of a 3D projector. A robotic programmed car, a robot beetle, bionic robots, and interactive AR painting aroused considerable interest.
The students investigated the operation of the stand for controlling an unstable object of the “reverse pendulum” type and the stand for controlling the control surfaces of a “tailless” type aircraft. The space theme was no less exciting - the students saw a model of a rocket, a satellite, a liquid rocket engine, as well as samples of products made of composite materials.
The medical and technical direction was presented by a vascular visualizer, a pulse oximeter and the “Phasegraph” complex. Practical interest was also aroused by a shooting range with a pistol that uses electromagnetic energy to move the projectile, a banknote counter, a currency detector, a forensic suitcase and a training weapon.
In addition to engineering demonstrations, the students took part in two linguistic games, worked with educational literature and information materials, which helped them better understand modern areas of study and professional development.
The event was organized by the Education Department of the Berestyn City Council together with the Preparatory Department of Kharkiv Aviation Institute in cooperation with all faculties of the university with the assistance of the institution's management.
"Universe of Knowledge" continues to open up living science and modern technologies to schoolchildren of the Kharkiv region, helping them take their first steps towards engineering professions and a future in the aerospace industry.
