On March 5, the eighth meeting of the interdepartmental seminar on problems of theoretical and experimental physics took place. KhAI is one of the initiators of the creation of this scientific platform.
The meeting was held at the B. Verkin Institute of Low Temperature Physics and Technology of the NAS of Ukraine and brought together specialists from several scientific institutions in a mixed format: some participants worked in the classroom, others joined online.
This time, the meeting was dedicated to the problems of astrophysics. The participants listened to and discussed the report of the senior lecturer of the Department of Physics of KhAI (No. 505), Doctor of Philosophy Sofia Denischenko on the topic “Structural Features of the Galaxy Based on the Results of Kinematic Analysis”.
In her report, the researcher presented modern approaches to studying the spiral structure of the Milky Way. It was about methods for determining the parameters of the spiral arms of our Galaxy, analysis of the motion of stars and interstellar gas, as well as models that allow reproducing the structure of the galactic disk. Special attention was paid to the issues of the number of spiral arms of the Milky Way, their geometry and the location of the Solar System in the local Orion arm.
The presented results of fundamental research aroused considerable professional interest among the audience and were highly appreciated during the discussion.
