On January 5, the first meeting between teachers and researchers from the National Aerospace University “Kharkiv Aviation Institute” and students from underground schools in Kharkiv took place in the format of a popular science event called “The Universe of Knowledge.”
More than 50 eleventh-grade students from lyceums No. 2, 11, 14, and 37 participated in the event, which took place that day at the O. Maselsky metro station. A whole series of meetings lies ahead: every day of the winter holidays, young Kharkiv residents will be greeted by a new “Universe of Knowledge” together with the KhAI.
The schoolchildren saw, studied, and tried out a 3D scanner, VR glasses, flying drones, a noise meter, and personal protective equipment. They familiarized themselves with models of gas turbine engines, details of blade machines, controlled robots and programmable DJI Tello drones, and worked with a control stand for the control surfaces of a tailless aircraft.
Of particular interest were the flight simulator, rocket, satellite engines, and a laboratory model with the functions of a real CubeSAT satellite. The students explored bionic robots, a humanoid robot with conversational artificial intelligence, a robot projector, and interactive painting with augmented reality.
The medical and technical part was no less informative: schoolchildren worked with a vascular visualizer, a pulse oximeter, and the “Fazagraf” complex, and also tested a banknote counter and currency detector in action.
The engineering program was complemented by a lottery-infoquest “Journey to the Future” from the Department of Document Science and a linguistic quiz from philologists — as a reminder that the modern “Universe of Knowledge” combines technology, thinking, and communication.
The program of events was organized by the Department of Education of the Kharkiv City Council at the initiative of the university administration.
