On April 26, Ukraine and the world commemorated the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster — an event that forever changed the course of history.
At KhAI, this was not discussed formally. During the week, students and curators lived this topic — through facts, stories, discussions, and difficult questions.
These were not just “educational hours,” but conversations about responsibility, about the price of a mistake.
They talked about the scale of the disaster — ecological, human, global.
About how Chernobyl became not only a tragedy, but also a lesson for the whole world.
But they did not remain only in the past. Because today these lessons sound different. Sharper.
They discussed 2022 — the occupation of the Chernobyl NPP, the risks of nuclear terrorism, the fragility of security even in the 21st century.
They talked about why control, responsibility, and international monitoring are no longer a theory, but a matter of survival.
Students looked at archival materials, photos, videos, analyzed facts — but most importantly, they asked questions and looked for answers.
A separate event was a meeting for students of the Faculty of Aircraft Engines with a representative of the KhAI "Energoproekt".
There, they talked like future engineers — about the technical causes of the accident, about safety systems, about what can and should be changed so that this does not happen again.
Last week at KhAI was not just a commemoration. It shaped professional and civic thinking.
