A Franco-German journalistic tandem visited KhAI

The Franco-German journalistic duo Morgan Bona and Johanna Maria Fritz, who have been reporting from Ukraine since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, visited the KhAI. Two voices. Two countries.

One common focus is a war that is changing before our eyes.

Working on the front lines, particularly in the Donetsk region, they witnessed how technology has rewritten the rules of battle in a matter of months. From “David vs. Goliath,” when civilian drones became an improvised advantage, to a new reality where drones determine everything.

Today, according to their observations, drones actually control up to 50 km along the contact line: they conduct reconnaissance, adjust fire, and strike at any moment. What until recently seemed like an auxiliary technology has become one of the key factors in modern warfare.

Their project “Drone Warfare / War Birds” is an attempt to show this war as it has never been seen before: through a combination of technology and human stories, front and workshops, decisions and consequences.

And that is why KhAI appeared on their itinerary.

An almost hour-long interview with Acting Rector Oleksii Lytvynov.

Laboratories, conversations with scientists. And — most importantly — understanding the environment where engineering thought keeps up with war.

It was this experience — the combination of science, education and the reality of war — that became one of the key discoveries for international journalists from Germany and France.

And at the same time — an important signal to the world:

Ukraine is not only fighting.

Ukraine is creating the future.
