The Department of Software Engineering is a leading structural unit of the Faculty of Software Engineering and Business, specializing in training the IT industry elite in the field of Information Technology, specialty F2 Software Engineering.

We provide training under modern Bachelor's and Master's educational programs covering the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Department Mission – to transform a student's talent into the professionalism of a digital world architect. We combine the fundamental engineering school of KHAI with agile methodologies (Agile/Scrum) and up-to-date technological stacks of the global market.

KEY TECHNOLOGIES AND DISCIPLINES

The core of the educational process consists of the hard and soft skills required by employers. Our curriculum is constantly updated to match market demands.

1. Programming languages and environments (Your toolkit):

- Fundamental and object-oriented languages: Programming in C#, Java, C++, Python (within numerical methods and AI).

- Web Development (Full Stack): Scripting languages for Web (JavaScript/TypeScript), network programming in PHP, HTML/CSS, Web design.

- Mobile Development: Programming for the Android operating system, cross-platform solutions.

- GameDev and Graphics: Computer graphics with OpenGL, 3D graphics and game development in Unity, Visual programming.

2. Professional engineering technologies:

- Architecture and quality: Software architecture and design (.NET), design patterns, Requirements engineering, Software quality and testing (QA/QC).

- Infrastructure and data: Databases (SQL/NoSQL), Cloud Computing, Operating systems, Computer networks.

- Teamwork: IT Project Management, Collaborative development tools (Git, Jira), Human-Computer Interaction (UI/UX).

- Security: Software and data security, Application cybersecurity.

3. Emerging fields (Future Tech):

- Artificial Intelligence: Artificial Intelligence systems, Artificial Neural Networks, Machine Learning.

- Big Data & IoT: Fundamentals of Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data processing.

- Immersive Tech: Virtual (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) programming.

- Generative AI & Prompt Engineering: We do not ban AI – we teach you how to master it. You will learn Prompt Engineering and discover how to ethically and professionally leverage ChatGPT, Midjourney, GitHub Copilot, and other LLM models to accelerate code development and content generation.

PRACTICE AND INDUSTRY COLLABORATION

We don't teach theory in a vacuum. The department maintains close partnerships with IT industry giants. Students participate in internships, practical training, and receive their first job offers while studying, thanks to collaboration with: NIX, SoftServe, EPAM Systems, Sigma Software, DB Best Technologies.

The educational process includes workshops led by mentors from these companies and hands-on work on real commercial case studies.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT (R&D)

The department serves as an innovation hub. Faculty and students collaborate on R&D projects in areas such as: Intelligent Decision Support Systems Development; Digital Transformation in Aerospace; Launching tech startups.

SCIENCE FOR VICTORY: DEFENCE TECH AND GRANTS

- The department actively contributes to strengthening the country's defense capabilities. We conduct state-funded, real-world applied science.

- National grants: Two research teams from the department won the prestigious "Science for Strengthening the Defense Capability of Ukraine" competition organized by the National Research Foundation of Ukraine (NRFU).

- Real impact: We develop projects focused on addressing military challenges and enhancing national security.
