The Department of Philosophy traces its origins back to the founding of the Kharkiv Aviation Institute in the 1930s. The department took its modern form in 1978. Since 1991, the department has run a postgraduate program, producing over 20 graduates who successfully defended their Candidate of Philosophical Sciences dissertations. In addition, the faculty has prepared and defended 4 Doctoral dissertations.

Mission: The department aims to develop in students critical thinking, a broad cultural worldview, the ability to deeply analyze scientific, political, and humanitarian challenges, and to anticipate social processes.

The department provides both mandatory courses and elective blocks, including “Formation of a Systemic Scientific Worldview” and “History by Choice”, for all specialties. Students can choose from a variety of humanities courses for bachelors, masters, and PhD students, such as:

Logical and Critical Thinking
Philosophical Problems of Scientific Cognition
History of Aviation and Space Exploration in Ukraine
Ethics of Business Communication
Fundamentals of Logical Analysis
Rhetoric in Communication Systems
History of Science and Technology
Some courses are offered in English.

Faculty: The department has 7 instructors, 6 of whom hold academic degrees (2 Doctors and 4 Candidates of Philosophical Sciences). Among them, 2 are Professors and 4 are Associate Professors.

Research: The department focuses on the theme: “Philosophical and Axiological Dimensions of Aerospace Engineering”. Currently, 7 postgraduate students are pursuing research topics aligned with the department’s overarching scientific context. Their work reflects contemporary realities, integrating modern approaches to understanding rapid technological progress and addressing current challenges.
