The Department of Documentation and Information Activity is a center of knowledge, creativity, and scientific events. We train professionals capable of working effectively with documents, information, and cultural values, fostering critical thinking, communication skills, and the professional confidence required of a modern specialist.

The department places special emphasis on training specialists in document support for international projects, the aerospace industry, and information-service activities who are capable of managing document flows, ensuring effective communication, and offering professional support at both national and global levels.

Department History

The department boasts over 90 years of unique history and development.

1930 – Founded as the Department of Ukrainian Language, laying the foundation for high-quality linguistic and cultural training.

2000 – Transformed into the Department of Ukrainian Studies, expanding the spectrum of scientific interests and practical competencies for students.

2005 – Launched student training in the major "Documentation and Information Activity."

2014 – Major renamed to "Library, Information, and Archival Studies."

2025 – New format and new title: "Department of Documentation and Information Activity," opening new horizons for training specialists by combining traditional knowledge with modern international practices and cutting-edge information technologies.

Academic Programs and Fields

We train future specialists in documentation studies, library and archival science, information analytics, document logistics, social communications, and DocDigital.

Educational Programs:

- "International Documentation and Information Activity" (Bachelor's level)

- "Documentation and Information Activity" (Master's level)

Our programs blend modern theory with practice, internships, and hands-on work on real projects. Students actively participate in all-Ukrainian competitions and Olympiads, regularly securing top awards, which confirms the high professional standard of training.

Research Activity

The department serves as an active hub for science and innovation:

International Scientific and Practical Conference "Human, Culture, Technique in the New Millennium" (annual, since 1999)

All-Ukrainian Conference of Young Scientists "Current Issues of Modern Socio-Humanitarian Knowledge" (annual, since 2008)

Scientific Journal "Infotopos: Current Issues of Modern Informological Knowledge"

We collaborate with the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, the Central State Archives of Science, Technology, and Architecture of Ukraine (CSASTA), leading research centers, and universities in Ukraine and worldwide, as well as the Departments of International Communications of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, consulates, and international cultural centers.

The department's faculty includes Doctors and Candidates of Sciences, experienced educators, and authoritative researchers—specialists who not only impart knowledge but also inspire, support student initiatives, and help open new horizons in science and professional activity.

The department is a vibrant, active space for development. We organize:

- Seminars and thematic major-specific weeks

- Competitions for student papers and research projects

- Intellectual quests and educational excursions

- Meetings with stakeholders and representatives of Kharkiv's creative elite
