The Department of Descriptive Geometry and Computer Modeling was established in 1930. In 2015, the Department was renamed and received its current title.
The Department carries out educational activities in the field of fundamental introductory engineering training, aimed at forming geometric and graphical competencies of future specialists in aviation, rocket and space, and other industries through product modeling using modern computer-aided design (CAD) systems. It ensures high-quality training of future specialists in engineering graphics, descriptive geometry, computer graphics, and geometric modeling. The Department teaches junior-year students from almost all core specialties of the University.
Since 2022, the Department has become a graduating department, training Bachelor’s degree students in the following specialties:
G11 “Mechanical Engineering (by specializations)”, specialization G11.03 “Technological Machines and Equipment” (Educational Program “Geometric Modeling and Visualization of Industrial Products”), and
133 “Industrial Mechanical Engineering” (Educational Program “Computer Design and 3D Modeling”).
The Department has a well-developed material and technical base and classroom facilities, which include 4 teaching classrooms, 3 computer laboratories, a prototyping, 3D printing, and modeling laboratory, and a methodological office.
Students study modern computer-aided design systems, including SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, and AutoCAD, as well as applied graphic software packages. At the same time, significant attention is paid to fundamental geometric training of future engineers, without which effective mastery of the principles and tools of modern design information technologies is impossible.
