The Department of Descriptive Geometry and Computer Modeling was established in 1930. In 2015, the department was renamed and received its current title.
The department conducts educational activities in fundamental introductory engineering training to develop geometric and graphic competencies in future specialists of aviation, aerospace, and other industries in product modeling using modern computer-aided design (CAD) systems. It ensures high-quality preparation of future specialists in engineering graphics, descriptive geometry, computer graphics, and geometric modeling. Lower-year students from almost all basic specialties of the university study at the department.
Since 2022, the department has become a degree-granting department, preparing Bachelors in the following specialties: G11 "Mechanical Engineering (by specializations). G11.03 Technological Machines and Equipment" (educational program "Geometric Modeling and Visualization of Industrial Products") and 133 Industrial Engineering (educational program "Computer Design and 3D Modeling").
The department has a well-developed material base and classroom facilities, including 4 educational classrooms, 3 computer labs, a laboratory for prototyping, 3D printing, and modeling, and a methodical room.
Students study modern computer-aided design systems, namely SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and applied graphics packages. Significant attention is paid to basic geometric training for future engineers, without which effective mastery of the principles and tools of modern design information technologies is impossible.
