The Department of Aviation Materials Science was established in 1999 on the basis of two departments: the Department of Structural Materials Technology and Aviation Materials Science, and the Department of Rocket and Space Technology Design. In 2013, the Department was renamed and received its current title.
The main area of activity of the Department of Composite Structures and Aviation Materials Science is the training of higher education students in the specialty G12 “Aviation and Rocket and Space Technology” (Educational Program “Rocket and Space Technology”, major “Engineering of Composite Structures for Aviation and Rocket and Space Technology”). The Department has a well-developed material base and classroom facilities, which include 16 teaching laboratories, a computer laboratory, methodological offices, and more. The Department’s laboratories are equipped with the necessary instruments and equipment for conducting laboratory and practical classes in materials science, chemistry, as well as specialized disciplines related to the development and creation of composite structures.
The computer laboratory is equipped with modern software for 3D modeling and strength analysis of composite structures. The level of training of the Department’s graduates enables them to successfully work in any field of modern industrial production related to composite structure engineering.
The Department also conducts research activities, involving students as well. Research topics are focused on solving problems related to the design, engineering, and manufacturing technologies of composite structures.
