1. General Provisions
1.1 These Regulations on Pedagogical Internship for Postgraduate Students (hereinafter referred to as the Regulations) were developed in accordance with Resolution No. 261 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated March 23, 2016, "On Approval of the Procedure for Training Higher Education Applicants for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Science in Higher Education Institutions (Scientific Institutions)" and other regulatory documents of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. The Regulations are approved by the Academic Council of the National Aerospace University "Kharkiv Aviation Institute" (hereinafter referred to as the University) and are valid temporarily until the introduction of higher education standards for training Doctors of Philosophy.
1.2 Pedagogical internship is an integral part of study in full-time and part-time postgraduate programs aimed at professional preparation for the research and pedagogical activities of a Doctor of Philosophy in higher education.
1.3 These Regulations regulate the procedure for undergoing the pedagogical internship, the tasks and methodological support for the internship, and reporting on the internship results.
1.4 The organizer of the internship and the base for its completion is the department to which the postgraduate student is assigned. A student may undergo the internship at other University departments or at similar departments in other higher education institutions (HEIs).
1.5 The pedagogical internship is generally conducted during the 3rd and 4th years of postgraduate study, after mastering the discipline "Didactics of Higher School," and is mandatory for all full-time and part-time postgraduate students.
2. Goal and Tasks of the Pedagogical Internship
2.1 The goal of the pedagogical internship is to consolidate theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and abilities required for the work of a higher education teacher. The internship involves solving the following tasks:
- Formation and development of professional pedagogical skills of a higher school teacher, including acquiring communicative competencies necessary for high-quality lecturing, conducting seminars and practical classes, and applying the latest teaching technologies and modern equipment;
- Cultivating a creative, research-oriented approach to pedagogical activity;
- Forming a need for postgraduate students to enhance their scientific and scientific-pedagogical qualifications;
- Mastering skills and abilities to perform the educational-methodological work of a higher education teacher.
3. Content and Organization of the Pedagogical Internship
3.1 The content of the pedagogical internship includes:
- Attending seminars, practical classes, and lectures of experienced faculty members of the department or University;
- Conducting educational-methodological work (writing lecture notes, textbooks, manuals, and other materials);
- Conducting laboratory, seminar, or practical classes, lectures, or fragments thereof.
3.2 The specific content of the internship is determined by the department, taking into account the student's background, experience in higher education, and the immediate tasks of the department.
3.3 Responsibility for organizing the internship rests with the student's scientific supervisor within the hours allocated for scientific supervision. The academic load performed by the student during the internship is credited to the teacher who teaches the course and monitors the quality of the student's teaching (the teacher's presence at classes is mandatory).
3.4 The timing and program of the internship are determined in the student's individual plan and approved by the scientific supervisor and the head of the department to which the student is attached.
4. Forms and Methods of Control over the Internship
4.1 Direct control over the internship is exercised by the student's scientific supervisor and the lecturer of the discipline in which the internship takes place.
4.2 Upon completion of the internship, the student submits a report to the Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies Department for each type of work, signed by the head of the department, the scientific supervisor, or the lecturer of the discipline (Appendix 1, Appendix 2).
4.3 The grade for the pedagogical internship is assigned by the scientific supervisor and the lecturer of the discipline and approved by the head of the department.
4.4 Postgraduate students performing educational or educational-methodological work under an employment contract within the University submit a report on the pedagogical internship based on the work performed at the department (University). These reports must be signed by the scientific supervisor and the head of the department where the load is performed. The grade is assigned based on the control of individual classes conducted by the student, according to the head of the department's plan.
4.5 The number of hours for all types of work performed by the student during the pedagogical internship totals at least 30 hours for educational work and 30 hours for educational-methodological work, but no more than 200 hours in total. The number of hours per work type must comply with the University's regulation "Time Norms for Planning and Accounting for the Work of Scientific-Pedagogical Staff."
4.6 Students who, for valid reasons, could not complete the internship by the planned date must complete it at another time determined by the department.
5. Rights and Duties of the Intern
5.1 The postgraduate student has the right to receive consultations from the scientific supervisor and faculty members on all matters related to the internship.
5.2 The student is obliged to:
- Diligently perform internship tasks defined by the department; demonstrate high responsibility, diligence, creative initiative, organization, discipline, and pedagogical tact;
- Comply with the University Charter, the University Internal Regulations, Dean's office orders, and departmental decisions;
- Timely submit the "Pedagogical Internship Report" to the Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies Department.
5.3 A student removed from the internship or whose work is deemed unsatisfactory is considered to have failed to fulfill their individual plan and, according to the Procedure for Training Higher Education Applicants for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy approved by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 261 dated March 23, 2016, is subject to expulsion.
6. Final Provisions
6.1 The Regulations are approved by the University Academic Council and put into effect by the Rector's order.
6.2 Control over the implementation of the Regulations is exercised by University officials within the limits of their authority established in job descriptions.
6.3 Amendments and additions to the Regulations are reviewed and approved by the Academic Council and put into effect by the Rector's order.
