The Department of Foreign Languages was established alongside the founding of the Kharkiv Aviation Institute in 1930. The department's mission is to organize general and professional training for highly qualified specialists capable of utilizing foreign languages within professional and business communication contexts.
The educational process for the "Foreign Language" discipline is provided by language commissions (English, German, and French). To ensure high-quality foreign language acquisition, higher education students begin their studies based on their current proficiency level (ranging from A1 to B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - CEFR).
In addition to the "Foreign Language" course, students have the opportunity to study subjects such as "Foreign Language for Specific Purposes," "Advanced Foreign Language," and "Business Foreign Language," using authentic methodologies from Oxford, Cambridge, Pearson, as well as modern instructional materials developed by department faculty. Among the events organized by the department to enhance students' language skills, a key role is played by the Speaking Club, which offers opportunities to practice speech skills with native speakers and foreign guests. The department provides language support for the scientific activities of students, doctoral candidates, and academic staff, as well as preparation for academic exchange programs with universities in Germany, Italy, and China.
Department faculty members continuously upgrade their qualifications at higher education institutions abroad.
